Or mission statement is more than just a catchy slogan to put on the wall to motivate our students. It is something we believe in and live out, every day here at New Life Christian School. Our campus is rich with the presence of God, not just because of student led, lunch time Bible studies, twice monthly chapels, and mandatory Bible classes for all grades, but because our students desire the things of God and desire to display God in their daily lives.

A recent opinion piece published in the Appeal-Democrat newspaper on Thursday Nov. 11th 2010, boasted about our tiny school - "The unattended backpacks, hoodies, chemistry binders and grammar text books laid strewn about on the sidewalk Wednesday at New Life Christian High. There's no worry about personal possessions being tampered with at the area's smallest high school, the kids are just too well behaved. The biggest problem among the 45 students on campus: gum chewing."

Our desire at New Life Christian School is to provide our students with a positive, God-centered atmosphere , and within that atmosphere to provide an education. Pastor Al Moody of New Life Assembly, our church covering, puts it this way, "You can get an education anywhere, but atmosphere is everything, and at New Life Christian School we provide a positive atmosphere."

Registration Fee: $65

Curriculum Fee: $225 (Books and Stanford Test)

Sports Fee: $35 per sport

Science Lab Fee: $15

Sports

NLCS is proud of our fine athletic department. We participate in the Northern Pacific Area Conference Division V under the leadership of our Athletic Director (and League President) Mr. Ron Strickland.

Prior to participation in interscholastic sports, students must have a sports physical, and show proof of insurance coverage. A $35 annual fee is charged per athlete. Players, coaches and spectators are expected to demonstrate respect for authority, teamwork and sportsmanship in line with a good Christian testimony. Persons not exhibiting proper behavior at one of our games brings embarrassment to our school; offenders will be asked to correct their behavior or leave the event.

Student-caused headaches are almost non-existent. But good behavior, positive attitudes and downright friendly demeanors don't necessarily equate to athletic success.That's been especially true for the school's girl's volleyball team, which Strickland coaches. The Crusaders would always do well in their league, then get sent packing in the first round of the postseason. It's been that way for at least 15 years, maybe more.That all changed Tuesday. Score one for the nice kids. The Crusaders won a playoff game, a 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 25-9 victory over Lodi Christian in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI playoffs.That school off Arboga Road you may not know or forgot existed is now one win away from a section title berth. The team that has no travel ball players and competes in a carpeted multi-use room is showing us all what a little perseverance and good attitude can yield."We were pretty nervous," said setter MacKenzie Ford. "Some people said we were going to get our butts whooped."They didn't, and tonight the fourth-seeded Crusaders travel to play top-ranked Woodland Christian in the semifinals. I'll be among those rooting for these girls, and you should be too. This is a team where all of us can put aside our petty differences and complaints about Yuba-Sutter athletics and focus on the positives.Let's all get behind a group of girls defying the odds. There were years when Strickland wasn't sure "if" there would be a team at New Life. When he arrived 22 years ago, there wasn't even a PE program in place. Now he's got a group of 12 girls to accomplish something that hasn't happened since the Clinton administration.Strickland can't tell you the exact season they last advanced because he's not a numbers guy — at all. When he calls in the Crusaders' scores to the paper, he'll talk about "strong net play" and hustle — never kills or digs. As cliché as it sounds, he only counts wins and the only statistic he keeps is "effort." But give the coach a pass. He's always been a basketball guy who in the beginning had to watch volleyball videos, check out books and beg for help to learn the basics, like filling out a rotation sheet.Now he substitutes liberally and confidently. That one game the Crusaders lost in that 3-1 victory over Lodi? It was when he made sure the girls who didn't start got to play."We use everybody," he said.And everybody deserves credit. So congratulations to No. 1 Leanna Whiteley, No. 3 Stephanie Elliott, No. 4 Kasey Owings, No. 6 Haley Moody, No. 7 Maggie Ford, No. 8 Kiley DeLozier, No. 9 Rachel Whiteley, No. 11 Katrina Cobb, No. 12 Sonya Singh, No. 13 Laura Whiteley, No. 14 Rachel Clark and No. 15 MacKenzie Ford.Come 7 p.m. tonight, be sure to give a cheer for the Crusaders.
